Boston Celtics (+165)

The Boston Celtics have re-emerged as NBA Championship favorites after staving off elimination in Game 6 at the Philadelphia 76ers and forcing a Game 7 of their second-round series back in Boston. The 76ers faded from +290 to +750 after failing to close out the series at home.

Denver Nuggets (+230)

The Denver Nuggets earned the top seed in the Western Conference thanks in large part to a dominant 34-7 home record. They have carried over that impeccable home record to the NBA playoffs, where they are a perfect 6-0 in Denver heading into the Western Conference finals, where they will either face the Los Angeles Lakers or Golden State Warriors.

Los Angeles Lakers (+500)

The Los Angeles Lakers are living up to the potential they showed in the abbreviated 2020 season, when LeBron James and Anthony Davis took them to the title. With a supporting cast spearheaded by D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura, the Lakers set aside a lethargic regular-season performance while taking down the No. 2-seed Memphis Grizzlies in round one and how have the defending-champion Golden State Warriors on the ropes, holding a 3-2 series lead in the second round.

How to Bet on the NBA Finals

If you’re new to betting on the NBA, all the same types of ways to bet on basketball are available for the NBA Finals. There’s also usually a robust market of props and special wagers available for each NBA Finals game. Continue scrolling for all the ways to bet on the NBA Championship odds.

Moneyline

The easiest NBA bet available is the moneyline, and it’s also the most common. When you bet the moneyline, you’re betting on who will win the game straight upThe margin of victory does not matter.

Reading moneyline odds is straightforward. Whichever team has a “+” number next to it is the underdog, while the team with a “-” next to it is the favorite. The associated numbers indicate the implied probability that the sports betting site has assigned to each team’s chances of winning the game. The best odds can also be used to calculate your prospective winnings.

Point Spread

If you place a spread bet on the favorite, they have to win by a specified number of points. Conversely, if you bet on the underdog, they have to not lose by the specified number of points.

For example, if the Warriors are -3.5 favorites in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, they would have to win by at least four points for you to win your bet on Golden State. If you took the opponent +3.5, they would have to lose by three points or less for you to cash your ticket.

You can also bet point spreads in live betting, and watch for them to change before the games begin due to injury news or an influx of money being bet on one side or the other.

Total Points

Totals betting (also known as over/under betting) is also relatively straightforward. Simply put, you are placing a bet on the total points scored in a game. Calculate the total score by adding the points each team scored together.

In our example, the total is set at 210.5. If you bet on the over, you’re betting that Golden State and Boston’s combined final scores will be more than 210.5 points. Just like placing a bet against the spread, half-points are used to avoid the possibility of a push, or tie.

Prop Bets

With fantasy sports exploding, player prop betting has seen an equal rise in popularity amongst NBA bettors. This includes wagering on specific players or events within games.

You can bet on player points, rebounds, assists, three-pointers made and defensive stats – as well as combos of all put together for most of the top player in any NBA Finals game.

There’s also team props available on winning margins, race to X number of points, first team and first basket scored among many others.

Live Betting

Many sports betting sites offer live NBA betting markets, allowing you to place bets on games that are already underway.

Just like a regular pre-game bet, you’re able to bet on the moneyline, spread, total, and several interesting props. That said, the spread and odds will be adjusted in real-time, based on the progression of the game and the number of incoming bets.

Best NBA Sports Betting Promos

In order to maximize the value on your wagers, especially as you start out sports betting, it is imperative to use all the NBA sports-betting promos at your disposal. While not many of these are focused on futures bets – like NBA Championship markets – the championship futures can still give you a good gauge of the relative balance of power in the Association.

Five Past NBA Championship Winners

Year Team
2022 Golden State Warriors
2021 Milwaukee Bucks
2020 Los Angeles Lakers
2019 Toronto Raptors
2018 Golden State Warriors

With their win in 2021, the Milwaukee Bucks broke a 49 season title drought – with Giannis Antetokounmpo now immortalized alongside Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in Bucks lore.

The Warriors have another chance to add to their dynastic run of the Stephen Curry- Klay Thompson-Draymond Green era having secured their ticket in the 2022 NBA Finals. With -160 odds to win the NBA Championship, the markets have them as a great bet to win their third title in a five year span.

NBA Teams That Have Never Won a Championship

Team Playoff Appearances
Phoenix Suns 30
Utah Jazz 28
Indiana Pacers 25
Denver Nuggets 25
Orlando Magic 14
Los Angeles Clippers 14
Memphis Grizzlies 11
Minnesota Timberwolves 9
Oklahoma City Thunder 8
New Orleans Pelicans 7
Charlotte Hornets 7

After coming oh-so-close in the 2021 Finals by going up 2-0, the Phoenix Suns title drought remains the longest in the league. After their embarrassing second round loss in Game 7 to the Dallas Mavericks, that dry period will now reach 31 years without an NBA Championship.

Utah and Denver both have extended droughts of 25+ seasons, and both could be set for offseason roster shakeups as they each failed to get out of the first round.
